About Alternative Futures
Alternative Futures is a project that is centred on collaboration, what it means, working with each other, with groups of people, different ages, class and places.
Using this collaborative process to look at and respond to Skelmersdale’s Newtown origins: why was this town made here, what were the reasons.
We will look and respond to the town’s public architecture, residents past and present experience of living in the town, how it is shaped by this built environment of modern design and artificial landscapes, revisiting questions set out by the creators of the town: who creates community, how long does it take, why is hope and play important within the designs of landscape and housing design. How do these ideas look when fabricated into reality, how do lives exist and flourish within spaces built without profit margins being part of the design process, which affects all private housing architecture now.
